Midi de la Méditerranée – Turn and challenges in European Islam

On Thursday, May 20, as part of the Midis de la Méditerranée, the MEDEA Institute and the European Movement Belgium were honored to receive Felice Dassetto, Professor Emeritus at the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL), Chairman of the Interdisciplinary Centre of Study of Islam in the Contemporary World (CISMOC), and Member of the Royal Academy of Belgium.

A quality audience came to share the analysis of Professor Dassetto on Islam in Europe. In a context marked by the debate on the burqa, where the term « Islamophobia » is used by the media for reporting a discomfort with Islam, Professor Dassetto explains that there is no “Islamophobia”, but there is certainly a distrust and discomfort compared to that religion. However, it has a long way to go in Europe, it remains important challenges to overcome, including lack of leadership and leadership training.
