The Arab world’s poorest and most misunderstood country has been facing multiple crises for years: a shortage of oil and water, a rapidly growing population, hunger, dictatorship, corruption, an international terrorist presence and deep internal regional and political differences. Now escalating regional rivalry between neighbouring Saudi Arabia and Iran has sparked a wider war that threatens chaos and possible collapse.

 Thursday, April 2 evening, representatives of the G-5 + 1 group (the members of the UN Security Council and Germany) and those of Iran met in Lausanne reached an agreement on the control of Iran’s nuclear and the lifting of international sanctions. This signature marks not only the beginning of solving a problem that has plagued relations in the Middle East, but could help to defuse tensions in the region by reintegrating Iran into the diplomatic game.

 After annual difficulty accessing religious sites, Palestinians vow to pursue ‘other means’ if restrictions continue.

 Jerusalem – Palestinian Christians said they would not tolerate a repetition of the Israeli restrictions to and violence which have in past years marred Holy Week festivities – culminating on Easter Sunday – and have vowed to pursue ‘other means’ if no marked changes are made.
