FAHD bin Abdelaziz

Born in 1921, King FAHD acceded to the Throne of Saudi Arabia when he succeeded his half-brother KHALED on June 13, 1982.

King FAHD was Head of State and Prime Minister. The Fifth King of Saudi Arabia dead on 1st August, 2005, after 23 years of governance.

He nominated his half-brother ABDALLAH as Crown Prince (officially: "Heir Apparent") and First Deputy Prime Minister, and his (full) brother Prince Sultan, Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense. This nomination makes Prince Sultan the second in line to the throne and could preempt problems of succession in the Saudi royal family.
He proclaimed servant and guardian of the Two Holy Mosques, Mecca and Medina.

His reign was marked by its contribution to Saudi Arabia’s international relations and diplomacy. Indeed, it was under King Fahd, during the Gulf War in 1986 that US’s military bases were implemented in Saudi Arabia. 
Son of King ABDELAZIZ bin Abd al-Rahman bin Faysal Al-Saud and of his sixth (and favourite) wife HUSSA bint Ahmed al-Sudairi, he is the eldest of seven brothers called "The Sudairi Seven" : SULTAN (his Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence), ABD AL-RAHMAN (Deputy Minister of Defence), NAYIF (Minister of the Interior), SALMAN (Governor of the Riyadh Province), AHMAD and TURKI.

King FAHD had three wives (ANUD, JAWZA and JAWARA), eight sons and five daughters. In 2005, it was the Crown Prince Abdullah, who succeeded him.
