Parliamentary Association for Euro-Arab Cooperation

The Parliamentary Association for Euro-Arab Cooperation was founded in 1974 by Parliamentarians from the, then, nine countries of the European Community. Its main objectives are the promotion of peace in the Middle East as laid down in the United Nations resolutions and the strengthening of political, economic and cultural co-operation between Europe and the Arab world.
In this context, the Association informs its members and co-ordinates their actions for better relations between Europe and the Middle East, organises regular meetings with the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union visits to the Middle East and to Arab countries in general, receives delegations, and is in contact with European governments, the Presidency of the European Council of Ministers and the Commission of the European Communities. It has observer status at the Inter-Parliamentary Union and at the United Nations Economic and Social Committee.
The Association has around 600 members in 18 national Parliaments of countries* members of the Council of Europe as well as in the European Parliament. All the major trends in European politics are represented in its Executive Committee which meets twice a year.
