ALGERIA
1991 legislative elections, first round results

The results of the first round of voting, clearly won by the fundamentalist Islamic Salvation front were annulled and the Constitution was suspended the following month. In April 1992, an advisory body on legislation -the National Consultative Council- was set up. It lasted until the National Transitional Council was inaugurated in 1994 for the three-year transitional period. The next elections took place in June 1997. The FIS was barred from running.

FIS, Front Islamique de Salut
188 deputies elected on a total of 430 seats

FFS, Front des Forces Socialistes
25 deputies elected on a total of 430 seats

FLN, Front de Libération Nationale
15 deputies elected on a total of 430 seats

RCD, Rassemblement pour la Culture et la Démocratie
no members elected (although it obtained a good result in the municipal elections of June 1990).
